Introduction:

Fiscal Policy Division (FPD) is one of the core departments of PIDE. As Fiscal Policy is considered one of the most dynamic and effective policy tool which can have an impact on the economy and thereby on the lives of people. Modern macroeconomics literature emphasizes both the short run and long run objectives of fiscal policy on the supply and demand side. Specifically for Pakistan it has been actively used as a policy tool to bring about the desired change. To have an academic discourse of such policies from the historical and contemporary state of the art literature context it requires an in-depth and ongoing analysis, hence FPD was created.

  • Public Expenditure
- Sustainability
- Public Choice Models
- Constraints
  • Public Debt and its Management
  • Fiscal Federalism and Fiscal Relations
To organize seminars, workshops and policy dialogues to enhance understanding of issues pertaining to public finance and public policy.
To disseminate information on public finance and policy through research reports, papers, edited books and news letters.
To develop a fiscal data bank which includes Government Financial Statistics, Budget sets of federal, provincial and districts and public finance manuals.


Research Frame work:

Although the section has been newly created, PIDE has on its credit 52 years of epic research experience. This has been translated in various forms of literary pieces, such as working papers, technical papers, PDR papers and various books and have been utilized and acknowledged by various forums and stakeholders such as government planning departments and academia in general. FPD plans to continue this tradition of excellence by focusing its basic and action research agenda on issues covering aspects of revenue, expenditure, debt and intergovernmental fiscal transfers. At FPD not only the current and emerging issues pertaining to fiscal policy would be covered under its research program but also basic research, research compilation and establishment of a databank will be carried out. For effective dissemination of the policy options and findings working papers, journal papers and reports will be published. In addition seminars and workshops will be held to create awareness and implementation.
